Good News/Bad News
Had the family meeting with David's doctor yesterday and here is where we
stand. The tests that they ran on David this week showed that his stomach is
not emptying as it should, which would explain why David continues to throw
up so much. This was disappointing for us as he will need to keep the
fistula in his stomach to continue to drain out his stomach contents.
The good news is that we are in contract negotiations with Georgetown's
Transplant team. If all goes as planned David may be transferred to
Georgetown next week for his transplant work-up and evaluation. Once David
is under transplant protocol it will be a 3-6 month wait to procure a viable
organ for him. He will hopefully remain well in Rehab while we wait for an
organ donor!
Once an organ is procured his transplant team will have a 8-12 hour window
to get the organ transplanted in David. The transplant will be performed at
Georgetown and David will remain at Georgetown for probably 9 months! Which
means, that David probably will not come home to me until sometime next
year, if all goes as planned. That is a very long time and we will face alot
of uncertainties in the year ahead...as we all know there are no guarantees
in life! Just continue to pray for David that he can remain well enough to
receive this transplant...
