Doctors Puzzled...

It never ceases to amaze me that with all the knowledge in this world and 10 physicians attending to David's care that they don't always have all the answers either! I went to see David today, they have taken him off of all his sedatives. The only thing he is on now, is his pain medication. His doctors are puzzled at his lack of response. He should be coming out of it and be able to follow verbal commands but, he just refuses to come out from that place where he is right now in his mind.

His doctor told me if he had trauma to the brain this would make sense, but since he doesn't they are puzzled by his lack of response. His nurse Jeff told me today that David has had very little movements in the last two days and he won't respond now to any type of verbal commands. It's weird, you think he's making progress and then you take five steps backwards. He only opened his eyes once today the entire time that I was there. I think David just didn't want to be bothered with anyone today...leave me alone he's thinking I've been through enough! After 11 surgeries with another one on Saturday, he must just be so very tired! So I wait and hope that tomorrow he will be more alert.

A Bright Spot...

Today the doctors have decided that David is depressed...duh...I could have told them that! I think that he can hear the doctors talk about his condition and the shape he is in when they make rounds every morning. With David's medical background, if he has put 2 + 2 together, he has discovered that he is in pretty bad shape...and yes, he is probably very depressed at thinking of what is ahead of him. They are going to treat him for depression, so I guess, that means more drugs for depression now...anyway, the bright spot of today was that they took him off the ventilator for two hours to see if he could breathe on his own...he did, but it required a lot of work on his part to do this! They are going to try and start the "weaning" process off the ventilator by taking him off for a longer period each time. At least, this is the first positive thing that's happened to him in the last couple of days.

P.S. He has another surgery tomorrow so continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
