David's Prognosis Not Good...
It's about
2:30AM here in MD and I was sent home to try and get some sleep tonight
as there is nothing more that they can do for him at this point. I left
for work about 2:00PM yesterday afternoon and David was right behind me
because he was going to walk some laps on the walking trail in the
Provinces Park, about two miles from our house. To make a long story
short, he was shot at close range a total of 4 times. Twice in the
abdomen, once in the back and in the face. I guess it was the shock from
the shooting or free will as I prefer to call it that David drove
himself two miles home to our house to call 911.
I really
believe that his guardian angels were the ones who drove him home in
that car tonight. By the time they flew him to Shock Trauma by
helicopter he was taken to the OR in about nine minutes. Rachel and her
boyfriend came and picked me up from CVS Pharmacy and drove me to Shock
Trauma. He was in the OR from 3:00-8:00PM. One of the bullets severed
the vena cava the main blood vessel that runs to your heart. Most of his
bowels were removed and a portion of his stomach from the gunshot
wounds. He cannot breathe on his own, they have him on a ventilator and
he is also intubated.
So far,
they have given him about 15 units of blood. He has a lot of internal
bleeding that they need to get under control. His blood pressure won't
stabilize and that is another concern. They can't stitch him up because
of all the bleeding so the doctor left his stomach and the remainder of
his bowels out...they are covered and packed with sterile dressings and
poor David looks like he is nine months pregnant, with all the packing.
They do not want to take him back to the OR again until Friday.
Right now,
they have him in a medically induced coma and the doctor told me they
will probably keep him that why for a week or two. They also did a full
body CT scan tonight after he returned from the OR. There doesn't seem
to be any brain damage from the bullet going through his face, but he
does have a broken cheek bone and his eye is very bruised and swollen
shut on that side of his face.
They are
going to move him to an ICU room tonight. His condition remains critical
and guarded. As far, as his lower extremities go, they won't know
anything until they bring him out of the medically induced coma as to
whether there will be any permanent damage to his legs.
Both of my
sisters Wanda and Tammy as well as Martha were with me tonight. My one
sister is staying with me here at the house. Rachel bless her heart came
home and cleaned up all the blood from the outside sidewalk and in the
house where he called 911, so I would not have to see this tonight. She
was pretty creeped out and didn't want to stay here tonight, so she is
going to stay with friends for a few days!
Both Trauma
doctors won't give me any type of prognosis...all they say is that he
has to make it through the next couple of days and we watch and we
wait...I keep thinking that this is some kind of horrible dream and it
will all be over in the morning, but it won't!
I'm going
to take something to help me sleep tonight and then my sister and I will
be going back to Shock Trauma's ICU tomorrow morning. Friday...I'm going
to pack a bag of things to do to keep my mind and hands busy while David
has his second surgery.
If you want
to mail cards to our home, I'm sure that David would appreciate that. I
will take them all to the hospital. He will be in the hospital for
probably a couple of weeks...we just don't know a lot right now.
I can't
bear to think of spending a life without my precious David, so please
keep him in your prayers...Terry |
